The Reality of Converged IP and Next Generation Service Delivery

In this fast-changing Internet world, when conflicting and confusing messages make it hard to clearly discern what is real and viable, there are four simple facts:

The world is moving to IP as the de facto protocol at the desktop, in the core, and in the access network.

Next Generation IP applications are creating enormous opportunities to deliver new, high-margin services.

Today, using MPLS and advanced traffic management, IP-based access solutions can deliver Carrier Class Quality of Service, security and reliability.

Robust, open, web-based operations management systems, together with IP/MPLS and SoftSwitching, provide all the capabilities necessary for fast and economical service creation, delivery, and billing for next generation IP services and applications.

Service Providers understand that to remain competitive and profitable, they must reduce network complexity and operational costs. They also understand that their access network needs a clear migration path to a converged, IP-dominated world, without abandoning their existing investments in traditional circuit-switched infrastructures.

Founded on the premise of one network for multiple services, we offer PurePacket™ an industry-leading, Pure-IP access solution that routes, transports, and switches voice, video and data as converged packet streams across an IP/MPLS-based architecture. Combining Carrier Class hardware and state-of-the-art software, PurePacket enables Integrated Communications Providers to cost-effectively deliver next generation broadband services over DSL, T1/E1, and fiber-based connections. Optimized for an all-IP world, PurePacket supports both Class 5 and SoftSwitch infrastructures as well as VPN and content-aware data services.

By automating service provisioning and supporting web-based self-service applications the PurePacket solution significantly reduces truck rolls and customer support costs. As a pure IP network, converged services can be deployed and maintained over a common access line without the cost or complexity of traditional TDM and ATM solutions. Advanced traffic management and MPLS ensure Quality of Service and customer satisfaction.

In the confusion swirling around the emerging telecom world, one thing is clear and certain: the future is IP, and with the PurePacket "one network, multiple services" solution, you can get there from here.

The Integral Access PurePacket Multi-Service Access Solution

The Integral Access PurePacket complete access network solution includes customer premise equipment, central office aggregation devices, and an operations management system for network control and services management:

PurePacketNode® Multi-Service Access Platform

PurePacketNode® CO/co-location/PoP/MDU & MTU multi-service devices incorporate the functionality of a Digital Loop Carrier, a DSL Access Multiplexer (DSLAM), a 1/0 Digital Cross-Connect and an Add/Drop Multiplexer, with interfaces to voice (using TR-08, GR-303, and V5.2) and data backbones. Remote PurePacketNodes link to the CO via multiple high speed Wide Area Network (WAN) interfaces including OC3, Fast Ethernet, DS3, 4 x DS1, and E1. The solution can transport packets directly over fiber using SONET, ATM or DWDM.

PurePacketCompact™ Service Aggregator for Multi Tenant Units

PurePacketCompact™ supports the same comprehensive range of voice, video, and data services as the PurePacketNode® in a smaller, high-density form factor that can be wall or rack mounted in space constrainded MTU environments. A single PurePacketCompact™ system allows network operators to service buildngs and campuses housing up to 60 business tenants. It supports up to 96 POTS lines, and 72 xDSL lines in a single chassis.

PurePacketOMS™, Operations Management System

PurePacketOMS™ leverages the intelligence embedded in the PurePacket platform to provide carriers a 'single-system image' of their access network. By providing automated service configuration and zero-touch, end-to-end flow-through provisioning, PurePacketOMS™ allows network operators to rapidly deploy and activate new revenue-generating services. This combination of network intelligence and automation enables service providers to maintain Service Level Agreements (SLAs), provide usage-based billing and offer premium services.

PurePacketOUTburst® Family of Integrated Access Devices (IADs)

PurePacketOUTburst® customer premise IADs (Integrated Access Devices), packetize voice calls and aggregate voice and data traffic for transport to a CO, co-location site, or PoP over a single DSL, T1/E1, or fiber optic access link. PurePacketOUTburst® pushes network intelligence to the edge of the network and provides extensive data capabilities (IP) in a broad range of optimized, application-specific configurations.

How It Benefits You

Without doubt, the world is already moving to IP, and the top service providers will be those that embrace and plan for this inevitability. Integral Access technology equips service providers to do just that across both new and traditional networks.

Increased Revenue Via Maximized Utilization of Local Loop

The PurePacket solution transports voice, video and data streams as highly managed IP packets that fully utilize and share the entire bandwidth of a common access link. Using dynamic bandwidth allocation and packet classification, time sensitive, mission critical, and best effort applications can be simultaneously supported while providing full QoS. Voice Activity Detection and Silence Suppression enable unused bandwidth to be dynamically reallocated when phones are on hook or during pauses in conversation. This allows more services and thus revenues, to be delivered over the same connection. For example, the PurePacket system can support 24 toll quality voice lines and 500 kbps of simultaneous data over a single T-1 line!

Low Operational Costs and Fast Time to Market with One Multi-Service Access Platform and Automated Service Management

Combining the functionality of many platforms (voice gateway, packet digital loop carrier, DSLAM, digital cross connect, etc.) and managing it with a comprehensive, browser-based operations management system, the PurePacket solution has been designed to expedite service delivery, reduce software and hardware integration, and minimize training and maintenance requirements. Supporting an open CORBA-based architecture, and providing full connection detail records (CDRs), the PurePacket solution can be integrated with existing front office and back office environments (e.g. CRM or billing) while supporting more advanced end-user, self-service applications via the web.

New Revenue Streams and Competitive Advantage Via Next Generation Broadband Services and Advanced Provisioning

With "point and click" provisioning, easy-to-use SLA menus, and support for SoftSwitch architectures and VPNs, the PurePacket solution enables Service Providers to rapidly bring to market new, differentiated IP-based services and applications. By merging the flexibility of IP-based client server applications (e.g. unified messaging) with robust Traffic Management and Engineering, Integral Access not only enables the delivery of these next generation services, but ensures they are delivered economically with uncompromised quality.

Carrier Class Reliability and Uncompromised Quality

Understanding that "Up-time" is "Money-time" Integral Access has designed its IP-based system to match the reliability of traditional circuit-based networks. PurePacket supports "Hitless" redundancy (calls won't be dropped), is NEBS-3 compliant, and enables back-up label switch paths to be dynamically provisioned in the case of a network failure. Additionally, under PurePacketOMS™, full performance and usage reports help diagnose and prevent problems. And, in the unlikely case of a problem, intelligent thresholds, alarms and email/pager notifications help resolve problems quickly and minimize cost and service downtime.

Scalability and Flexibility Enable Growth and Migration

PurePacket offers a very cost-effective, scalable solution that maximizes return on investment (ROI). With a modest initial purchase Service Providers can add line cards and nodes in direct proportion to customer growth. The PurePacketNode itself can be racked and stacked in multiple combinations enabling it to be used in Central Offices, CoLos, outside plant enclosures and Multi-Tenant Units. A full line of flexible, plug-n-play CPEs provide a wide array of interfaces including DSL, T1, fiber and POTS. Supporting both Class 5 and SoftSwitch environments, existing circuit switch clients can easily and economically be migrated to the New, IP-Converged World.
